A great secret from yours truly… drinking apple juice helps migraines!

Posted by: maryhealth in: ● March 9, 2009

Since I already confessed in my last post that I have some problems with severe menstrual pain,  I will also let you in on an additional fact. I also get migraines right before my period.  Needless to say, this is a very unfun way to welcome “aunt flo.”

I have dealt with this problem for years. In fact, at first I didn’t even realize the migraines were connected with my period. I just thought coincidentally I happened to be getting the headaches around that time of month.  Then I put two and two together, and said, “oh no, I don’t deserve this fate!”  The headaches have something to do with shifting hormone levels, I really can’t tell you for sure but this is something I am going to look into soon.

Anyhow, I just recently got very lucky and stumbled into a great secret for helping bad headaches and migraines. Drinking apple juice!  I know it sounds ridiculous, seriously though, it works. You just have to drink it right at the exact time the headache is coming on.  This plan obviously doesn’t always work as it is easy to be stuck somewhere with an oncoming migraine and no apple juice to be seen.  (You can’t exactly carry a bottle of apple juice with you at all times, unless you are 4 years old or something!)apple

To be honest, I don’t know where I heard this fact. There is not much information about the on the internet. However, I am happy that it works like 75% of the time. That is good enough for me.  Keep in mind you can’t just eat an apple, it has to be juice.

Does anyone have any other tips to help with migraines?

I’ve had migraines many times, and never heard this. But I’m willing to try anything and apple juice is always good. I had a landlord who had a certain plant in the back yard with which she made tea. She was traveling the world and I had to cut leaves from the plant and send it to her. Believe it or not, I forget the name of the plant. But at that time in my life, I was in a terrible job, and once I quit, the migraines stopped. So it was many years before they started again, and by that time I couldn’t remember the plant. :-(

Hey Mary, Just came across your blog and was delighted with some of your post and remedies. Do you have any scientific facts through testing of certain ingredients? I’m wondering if maybe the pectin or I really have no idea but it’s great that you have and shared this info. I’ve been out sick for the past month and that’s the reason I’ve reading blogs that I have never seen or been to before. I had gone into the E.R. the end of Jan for right flank pain and was admitted for kidney stones/ I then woke up several days later to find out from family that I had been in a coma and on life support for those several days and passed several stones. I had a friend of mine put up a post letting my readers know that I was out of commission for awhile, and now that I’m back I’m asking for any guest post that fellow bloggers would like to put on my blog with their link. In the meantime I’m going to just take it easy for awhile and take care of social networking, my entrecards, blog-catalog, and trying to take care of over 8,000 emails that I’ve pile up on me. I’ve also been drinking tons of WATER and CRANBERRY JUICE during all of this time. So I’ve also read your H2o post too. I will be sure to get back and keep in touch, now that I’ve found a new and unique blog. Thanks JJ
