Pycnogenol as Menstrual Pain treatment? French Pine Bark- Really?!
Posted by: maryhealth in: ● April 8, 2009
I have been reading lately that pycnogenol is also an effective menstrual pain treatment. As you know I am always on the lookout for natural remedies for chronic menstrual pain. Pycnogenol is a a natural plant extract that acts as an antinflammatory. I read that Pycnogenol is made from pine bark extract from France.
As we all know the bounty of nature provides us with alternatives to medical anti inflammatory treatments. Turmeric is also a great natural anti inflammatory.
Recently the Japanese did an experiment giving Pycnogenol to women aged 21-45. The study showed that the Pycnogenol had a marked positive impact on these women during consequent menstrual cycles. Apparently, the more you take this supplement the better it will work from month to month. In fact, Journal of Reproductive Medicine published information about this natural menstrual pain treatment in May of 2008.
I did a little checking around and you can find Pycnogenol in many online natural health stores for about $15 for a bottle. Pycnogenol also has antioxidant properties and is 20 times more potent than vitamin C and 50 times more than vitamin E! So I guess even if it doesn’t bring you menstrual pain relief it may indeed assist you in other ways. It may also help with joint and muscle pain (especially from Sports injuiries)- so I guess feel free to give some to the man in your life as well… even though he won’t get menstrual cramps it may indeed bring him some relief as well.
Has anyone heard of or tried this remedy yet? What were your results?
