Here is a new Allay patch video about their unique menstrual pain relief device. This video does a fantastic job explaining all!

As readers of my blog probably saw, I ran a giveaway a few weeks ago and gave out some Allay Period Relief Patch samples. Since then I have been blogging a bit about different natural cures for women. It feels good to be doing something to help women with painful periods. This subject of painful menstruation is something I have felt pretty powerless about throughout my life, so I am happy to be getting out there and doing something proactive.
Anyway I got feedback from one of the women I gave a free patch away to. She had pretty positive results. Here is what she wrote to me:
Thanks Mary, I got my patch in the mail today. I was surprised what a small device it was. I don’t know what I was expecting exactly, but when it showed up it was nice to see it fit into a small envelope. I wasn’t exactly sure how to wear the Allay Patch at first, and I think I may have even put it on backwards when I first tried it. You know, I was in terrible pain when I was trying to figure it out so I am sure that didn’t help my IQ exactly. (-: Once I got it on right and working it felt really different. I could feel the pulsing on a pretty deep level. At first, I found it distracting and can’t say I really loved the sensation. I was going to try working at my desk, but I thought it would be better to do something mindless. So I decided to chill out and watch tv, in fact I even had a chick flick ready to go with my monthly woes. I had taped The holiday with Cameron Diaz. As I relaxed with a cup of tea, and my Allay Patch pulsing away, I started to feel much better. Soon I got used to the Allay patches sensation and I forgot I had it on at all. I forgot about my menstrual cramps too, so that is defintiely an achievement!! I am definitely going to use this again next month. Thanks again, Mary! Allay Frequently Asked Questions

In my ongoing quest to offer help for painful periods, I am learning about ayurveda. Experts say that ayurveda can help with painful periods by taking aloe vera gel with one pinch of black pepper. The idea is to take a tablespoon of this mixture everyday the week before your period. Continue taking this mixture during your period when you have menstrual cramps. Sounds easy, almost too easy to work.
I am definitely going to try this experiment during my next menstrual cycle. Aloe vera is widely available and I know they sell it at my local health food store. As it turns out, aloe vera is beneficial in many ways that even go beyond painful periods. It has been used to treat a variety of ailments since the beginning of history. After all, think about how widely available aloe vera is!
The aloe vera liquid contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids that are great for humans. It helps with inflammation which is a huge benefit. As we know, infammation causes pain and is also responsible for disease and aging. I know many people take aloe vera to help with digestive problems such as colitis and irritable bowel symptom. It also is a commonly used treatment for sunburn and to rapidly heal wounds. Aloe vera also assists with liver function. It is amazing everything that this plant has to offer. No wonder the ancient Egyptians called it “The Plant of Immortality.”
Once you begin contemplating all that aloe vera does to benefit us, it is hard to believe that we all aren’t taking it every day. I know it is not exactly delicious, but on the other hand it is largely tasteless. And if aloe vera assists with menstrual cramps all the better! It is recommended to take the aloe vera on an empty stomach to most greatly benefit.

I have been getting some really positive feedback for the blog posts I wrote recently about help for menstrual cramps. It also is a great feeling connecting with so many women with the same problems. We tend to suffer so silently. I talk with my girlfriends about everything under the sun really, but we rarely discuss our painful periods. Usually, we just stay home and sulk and yell into a pillow.
Here is a list I have been working on of natural supplements that seem to help with menstrual cramps. If you had any to add to my list, please feel free to post in my comments.
Chamomile Tea-
The trick here is to drink a LOT of the tea. Just one small cup of tea in the afternoon isn’t going to cut it. If you want to help your menstrual cramps with chamomile tea, try drinking like 6 cups a day. If you are like me and really enjoy chamomile tea, this might be easy. Find a company that sells a good organic chamomile tea. You can even put a little bit of honey in this tea as honey is beneficial for cramps as well. However, this tea does tend to make you drowsy, so no operating of heavy machinery ladies!
Ginger-Tea Compress-
I haven’t tried this one yet, but the idea is to place a ginger-tea compress on the lower abdomen during your menstrual cramps. You make this tea just by boiling fresh ginger route in water for over 15 minutes. Simply dip a hand towel into this tea. Ginger increases circulation which should assist with your cramps. Ginger really is a remarkable root. As we all know ginger works remarkably well for assisting with nausea.
Cramp Bark-
I haven’t tried cramp bark, but many women swear by it. Cramp bark is aptly named as it is a botanical that treats menstrual cramps. Drink cramp bark tea every day two or three times per day before you are expecting your period. Once you have your period, continue to drink the cramp bark 2 times each day. I haven’t tasted this tea, but how bad could it be if it works, right?
I will be back with more cures for menstrual pain tomorrow!

I recently went to a naturopathic doctor to see if they had any advice for the migraines I have been having during my menstrual cycle. Basically, what happens in a nutshell is about a day before my period I start getting a debilitating headache. As if the painful menstruation wasn’t bad enough. Yes, for a few years now a migraine has been a nice precursor to my period. However, these migraines are so bad that I have to take an entire
day off from work. I get light sensitivity, nausea, vomiting, the whole 9 yards…
Anyway, last month I decided I couldn’t take it anymore and I went to a naturopathic doctor to see if she had any suggestions. One of the key things that she recommended was a daily dose of cod liver oil. At first I thought, “oh no, I am doomed because never, ever, will I try this.” However, as I left the office I bought a bottle (which was expensive, a small bottle is about $20). Even though I had the cod liver oil in hand, I was dubious if I would actually muster the bravery needed to try it.
Well, I made my boyfriend try it first. He did and said to me with a totally straight face, “Mary, this has no taste at all.” I really thought he was messing with me. However, after a few days I could tell he was serious. Impossible? Well, I would have to be brave and try it. I really am quite ready to do just about anything to get rid of these migraines before my menstrual cycle.
Sure enough when I tried the cod liver oil it really did have no flavor. The people who make this are geniuses, I guess. The brand I bought was Nordic Naturals with lemon. So sure enough when my period arrived, no migraine. And to tell you the truth, my menstrual cycle was not as painful as normal either.
Apparently, cod liver oil has all kinds of great benefits including reducing frequency of headaches. The oil’s fatty acid content reduces inflammation. The particular type of fatty acids found in fish oil has the ability to help with inflammation in a way that other fats in our diet cannot. Cod liver oil is also supposed to help with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease and stroke, breast, prostate and colon cancer, depression, bipolar disorder, attention deficit disorder, cognitive dysfunction and Alzheimer’s disease!!

I was reading tonight about Maca and how it is one of the superfoods. Apparently, it is very easy to buy and add to shakes or drinks. Maca is grown in the Andes mountains, and has been used by people in Peru for centuries as a main food source, and also a nutritional supplement. I am definitely considering buying some Maca.
Maca has a wide variety of health benefits. First and foremost, it balances hormones and improves all types of sexual problems. For example, it helps with menopause troubles, infertility, male sperm count, and low sex drives. What is interesting is it has applications for men and for women. This is because it doesn’t effect the hormones as much as it does regulating the endocrine functioning in the body.
I am thinking that Maca might also help with painful menstruation, and symptoms of endometriosis since it has such a great impact on related problems. It seems that it would be a natural next step that it would help women with menstrual cramps and premenstrual syndrome.
Maca also assists with endurance, strength, circulation and fighting oxidative damage to the body. It has 10% protein, a bunch of essential fatty acids, and an array of phytonutrients. I am intrigued! I just don’t know anyone who has tried it.
If you have tried Maca, post a comment and let me know what you thought. OK?

Hey trusty readers. I have something special to offer you today- Freebies!
I can’t promise that I will always have freebies to give out- but today I do. I have a small amount of free Allay Period Relief Patches that I can give to the first group of people who respond. I wrote about The Allay Patch last week. I had a chance to try it out recently and was SO impressed.
So good news for you if you are in the U.S and over 18 years old, I agreed to put up the Allay Period Relief Patch banner in exchange for some free samples to give to y’all.
It completely got rid of my pain in a matter of minutes. Now I am actually looking forward to my next period so I can try it again. (OK, kidding about the looking forward to my period thing, but seriously I would give my right arm during my period to cure cramps. Or maybe I should say “my right ovary.”)
The Allay Patch sells for about $40 at the Allay Patch website. By the way, you might want to visit the site anyhow to read what two physicians who are behind the Allay Period Relief Patch- Dr. Barry Eppley, M.D., and Dr. Sheena Kong say about the benefits of the patch.
However if you respond really really soon, I will get an Allay Patch sent to you in the next week or so. You simply need to fill out an online form prior to receiving it, and another form after trying it out to tell the good people at Allay Patch about your experiences. Yea!
Just post a comment below with your contact info if you want one! I will get back to the first group of people who won the Allay Patches!

I had the good fortune a couple weeks ago to try out The Allay Relief Patch, which is a new product designed to help women who have painful periods. Unfortunately, I fall into that category (as you already know if you are a reader of my blog). Fortunately, the Allay Patch worked really well. I am feeling very fortuitous that I gave it a shot.
Seriously, I know I sound like a commercial, but painful periods has been such a devastating issue in my life. This is really why I got into exploring the topic of women’s health and natural healing in the first place! I hate taking medicine. Hate it! But each month like clockwork, I am forced to take a bunch of midol to have any type of relief from the pain whatsoever.
I have tried all the natural remedies that work for some women (like raspberry tea, heating pads, and yoga) but those options haven’t worked for me at all. The bad news is that even the midol usually doesn’t work to completely help me. Once a month, I have to take at least a full day off from work. And my employer is getting kind of irratated with me that I am always taking days off.
The Allay Patch uses electropulse therapy. You can feel a tiny electric current working on you. However, when I tried it the sharp pains I was feeling dissolved almost immediately. Here is some text from the Allay Patch website:
What’s Revolutionary about the Allay Period Relief Patch and is it Safe?
The Allay Period Relief Patch when used as directed is extremely safe. The amount of current generated by the Allay Period Relief Patch is approximately 1/10 of that generated by an ordinary cell phone. The pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) technology on which the Allay Period Relief Patch is based has been widely available in clinical settings and has proven to be both safe and effective over decades of use. These machines, however, were very large and expensive and not suitable for home use and certainly were in no way portable. The inventors the Allay Period Relief Patch have used advanced micro circuitry to shrink this technology into a highly portable device that is wafer thin and can be worn directly against the skin. It’s truly a revolutionary advancement in technology.
They have been using Electronic Pulse therapy over the years to treat other types of pain- like back pain. The Allay Patch is the first time this technology has been applied specifically for women.
Has anyone else tried the Allay Period Relief Patch? What do you think?
